  • James Steel Productions is seeking a skilled and proactive General Manager to support the delivery of our growing slate of theatrical productions. This is a pivotal role within a small, fast-paced company, offering the opportunity to work across new musicals, plays, and international collaborations.

    You'll be responsible for overseeing the operational, financial, and contractual aspects of multiple productions in development and performance. Working closely with the Executive Producer, Production Assistant, and wider creative teams, you'll ensure projects run smoothly from contracting through to opening night.

    Job Requirements

    3-5 years' experience in general or company management within UK theatre

    Strong understanding of contracting, budgets, and theatre operations

    Familiarity with Equity, ITC, and UK Theatre agreements

    Excellent organisational, communication, and problem-solving skills

    Calm under pressure, flexible, and collaborative in approach

    Confidence working across multiple productions simultaneously

    Proficient with Google Workspace, Excel, and project management tools

    Job Responsibilities

    Manage production budgets, cashflow, reconciliations, and financial reporting

    Draft and issue contracts for creatives, cast, venues, and suppliers

    Coordinate insurance, licensing, and compliance documentation

    Oversee scheduling, production timelines, and rehearsal logistics

    Liaise with venues, technical teams, and producers throughout pre-production and delivery

    Support funding applications, reporting, and stakeholder documentation

    Contribute to company operations, rebrand, and longer-term strategic planning

  • The Production Assistant will be involved in all aspects of staging a show, from early development through to production and delivery. The role is ideal for someone proactive, detail-oriented, and passionate about theatre, particularly new writing and musical theatre. You'll work closely with the Producer and General Manager on multiple projects across our portfolio.

    Demonstrable administrative or production experience (theatre or similar field)

    Excellent written, verbal, and numeracy skills

    Highly organised with great attention to detail

    Able to work independently and prioritise task

    Provide day-to-day support to the Producer and General Manager

    Research and coordinate travel and accommodation for creatives and teams

    Manage general enquiries and act as the first point of contact for productions

    Support with AV checks, tech requirements, and rehearsal logistics

    Create and maintain contact sheets, production logs, and schedules

    Book rehearsal spaces, readings, and workshop venues

    Organise meetings and assist with minute-taking and agendas

    Draft and file cast, crew, and creative contracts

    Collate welcome packs, production paperwork, and schedules

    Draft programme content and assist in programme creation

    Support the planning and delivery of press nights and launch events
